Transition Year at St. Mark’s Community School
Transition Year (TY) at St. Mark’s Community School is an optional and exciting programme that bridges the gap between Junior Cycle and the more demanding Senior Cycle. It provides students with a valuable opportunity to mature, explore their interests, and grow academically, socially, and personally, without the immediate pressure of examinations. Through a wide range of learning experiences, TY encourages students to develop confidence, independence, and skills that will benefit them both in school and beyond.
Students in TY engage in a diverse curriculum that includes core subjects, a taste of Leaving Certificate options, and unique modules designed to foster creativity, independence, and practical life skills. Through trips, workshops, guest speakers, and projects, students develop confidence, gain work experience, and explore potential career paths. Highlights of the year include events like the TY Show, visits to universities, volunteering programmes, and memorable experiences such as bonding trips and cultural excursions.
Ideal for students who want time to reflect on their future choices, develop maturity, and immerse themselves in new challenges, TY at St. Mark’s is both enriching and rewarding. With continuous assessment, a focus on personal development, and support from dedicated staff, it’s a year like no other.
